Who I Work With

I support people who want to create a happy neurodivergent life that works with their brain instead of against it.

I am LGBTQIA+, home education and neurodivergence-affirming. People in all of these groups can find themselves misunderstood by counsellors and other professionals who don’t understand their identity. I aim to provide a safe space and to affirm your lived experience.

Some of my clients are exploring who they are and processing their past after realising their neurodivergent or LGBTQIA+ identity. Others are seeking help with other life issues and want a counsellor who is likely to understand and validate their experiences. It's common for autistic adults and those with a late diagnosis or self-identification to have a lot to unpick as they grow into their newly discovered neurodivergent identity.

I do not view autism, ADHD or other neurodivergences as disorders or conditions. There is nothing wrong with being neurodivergent. Research shows that building a positive neurodivergent identity is crucial for improving self-esteem, and I support people on their journey to achieve this.

I work online internationally (subject to your country's laws permitting this) from my base in Cornwall, United Kingdom.

I also produce free and low-cost neuroaffirming resources which are available to all via https://jadefarrington.com/articles-resources-and-information/

About Me And How I Work

As an integrative counsellor I draw on different techniques depending on your needs, preferences and aims. What works for one person does not necessarily work for another, even if they share a neurotype. I utilise therapeutic techniques from a variety of modalities including person centred counselling; gestalt therapy; transpersonal counselling; and adapted, neurodivergent-friendly cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). I tailor these to your aims and only offer therapeutic techniques in a neuro-affirming way, not to encourage masking or neuronormative behaviour.

In addition to counselling I also provide Rewind Trauma Therapy for PTSD which quickly stops flashbacks, nightmares and intrusive thoughts without having to talk about them.

I aim to offer a safe space where you can be yourself. Stimming and unmasking as you feel comfortable are very welcome here.

I offer a free 15-minute online call so you can see if I’m the right person to work with you.

A few of the difficulties and experiences I help people with:  Understanding their neurodivergent identity, needs and the way their brain works best (Including autism, ADHD, PDA, dyspraxia, aphantastia, hyperphantasia, misophonia, alexithymia, rejection sensitivity, autistic burnout, masking, etc.)
